Public Hearing(s) Regarding Petitions to Modify School District Boundaries by the Attachment/Detachment of Territory.

The West Allis – West Milwaukee School District received four petitions pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute §117.12, which allows for the detachment of territory from one school district and its attachment to an adjoining school district by petition. In this case, the adjoining school district is New Berlin School District. 
 
A petition for detachment of a small territory may be filed by a majority of the electors residing in the territory proposed to be detached or the owner(s) of 50 percent or more of the territory proposed to be detached. The school boards of the West Allis – West Milwaukee School District and New Berlin School District must adopt of a resolution either denying or accepting the detachment/attachment by March 1, 2026.

The West Allis – West Milwaukee School District will conduct public hearings on these petitions on February 9, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the WAWM Activity and Fitness Center located at 1300 S. 109th Street, West Allis, 53214, in the second-floor boardroom. The petitioners are granted the opportunity to present their reasons in support of detachment.
 
The Board of Education welcomes any feedback from the owners, residents and other community members at the February 9, 2026, board meeting and anticipates taking board action to deny or approve the petitions at the February 23, 2026, school board meeting.
